The Elea 4000 was a later series of Olivetti mainframe computers designed by the Olivetti electronical division.
After the division was sold to General Electric in 1964, the Elea 4000 series was renamed GE Series 100 and distributed under the new brand name.
The first model of the series, the GE-115 (originally named Elea 4115) was designed at Pregnana Milanese by engineer Ferruccio Zulian, later models were designed in the same plant under his supervision.
Over 40,000 units were sold with the GE model names GE-115 (introduced in 1967), GE-120 and GE-130 (both introduced in 1968), by General Electric at first, and later by Honeywell and Honeywell-Bull after subsequent company acquisitions and mergers.
Notes:
- These manuals originally came with a GE-120 model installed at Zurich Airport circa 1970 or 1971. The computer itself and the manuals were recovered in 2017 and are currently on display in our MIAI/MusIF computer museums collection. More info about the museums at https://miai.musif.eu
- The documents often refer to GE-130 (and sometimes to GE-115/3). This is probably because GE-120 and GE-130 are basically the same machine, GE-120 being an underclocked version of the GE-130 model; GE-120 and GE-130 are designed to be backwards compatible with GE-115.
